Unboxing and design

So what do you get in that Realme 9 yellow box? You get yourself a 33W charging adapter, a Type C USB cable, and a clear case as well. That’s everything you’ll find in the box. No surprises. Let’s check out the design of the Realme 9, and I’ve gotta say you will really like the look and feel of this phone. It’s a 6.4 inches gadget certainly nice and comfortable to clutch. It feels quite compact, certainly compared with a lot of 6.7-inch phones recently. And it is not too hefty, at around 178 grams and just 8mm thick.

lip it over. And that is where the real fun begins. You’ve got a few different color options Meteor Black, Sunburst Gold, and Stargaze White. This design features a holographic 3D ripple design which is really lovely. It is completely smooth and that matte finish is pretty good at hiding smudges from your fingers. SCS and greasy marks. While it is just plastic around the back and around the edges here Realme did still nail it with the design of this phone. You do have a pre-installed screen protector on there too. The phone can take a bit of a splash and no problem, just that there is no water resistance.

Cameras | 108MP

What Realme has done, basically is pull a Xiaomi stunt with that 108 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.67″, 0.64µm, Dual Pixel PDAF main camera. It doesn’t capture 108 mega images by default though it uses 9-in-1 pixel binning instead. So what you actually end up with is a 12-megapixel photo. It just helps to improve that low light performance. You’ve both got a basic 8 MP, f/2.2, 120˚ ultra-wide-angle shooter on board as well and the final lens slapped on the back of here is a basic macro lens 2MP. Last up around the front of the Realme 9, you’ve got a 16-megapixel selfie shooter using Sonny’s IMX 471 sensor which is pretty capable even if you’re shooting in stronger light and slightly lower light.

90Hz, AMOLED Display

Now the Realme 9 spot, a 6.4 inch Super AMOLED display, Full HD Plus resolution 1080 x 2400 pixels. The fact that it’s only a 6.4 ich means lots of fine detail packed in there. Images on nice and crisp. By default screen colors are set to vivid which is by far the best of the other options. Because this is an AMOLED screen, yes, you do have an always-on display option on the Realme 9. Another thing is that you can change up the fingerprint animation that plays when you use that in-display fingerprint sensor. In-display fingerprint sensors have come a long way in the past couple of years.

The selfie camera here is not massive so it doesn’t intrude on the action when you go full screen. And if you dive on into screen refresh rate you will see it’s set to AUTO by default. That will scale it from 60 to 90 Hertz dependent on what you’re up to.

The Realme 9 is powered by Qualcomm SM6225 Snapdragon 680 4G (6 nm) chipset. A fairly basic chipset overall, but absolutely fine for your everyday video streaming, messaging, all that kind of stuff. And as for storage the Realme 9 has 128GB, and the 256GB model might also be available in select regions. The good news is you can also expand that storage using a microSDXC (dedicated slot). You do have8GB of RAM to help things move along nicely. It scores pretty standardly benchmarking scores. And the battery life seems solid enough as well as a 5,000 mAh capacity cell in there. It should easily last you through a fairly intense day on a single charge. And where you do need to juice it back up again, Realme 9 supports 33W, 50% in 31 min, and 100% in 75 minutes (advertised).

Despite the fact that this phone was released at the end of the first quarter of 2022, a lot of budget smartphones still came with that still old Android 11. But thankfully the Realme 9 packs, the latest Android 12 with Realme UI 3.0. Now, Realme UI is very similar to the ColorOS launcher which you’ll find on Oppo smartphones. So you’ll find a lot of the same features packed in here like floating windows, and the smart sidebar just to mention a few.
