Design
The Realme 9i comes with a distinctive camera island. It is available in colors Black, and Blue. Maybe that’s because the back and frame are made of plastic (Dragontrail Pro) are not very slippery. The phone sides are flat all around which makes the 9i feel sharp along the edges. The power and volume keys are easy to reach and the power key doubles as a side-mounted fingerprint reader. It’s fast and reliable. You can use a firm touch, which means you’ll need to press the key, release it, and then touch the scanner again. The 9i has a headphones jack and stereo speakers next to it. It scores very good loudness on tests. Overall, the music sounds quite impressive.
90Hz Display
On the front, you’ll find a punch hole in the upper left corner and not-so-slim bezzles. Especially the one on the bottom. Then Realme 9i has a 6.6 inch IPS LCD panel with a 90 Hertz refresh rate. You can set the refresh rate to 60 Hertz or choose the granular auto-refresh rate. Unfortunately, games will be stuck at 60 Hertz. This LCD has a Full HD resolution, nice contrast, and good levels of brightness with a max of 480 nits. You can comfortably (kinda) use this phone outside. Color accuracy isn’t the best though since whites and grays have a bluish tint. There is Dragontrail Pro Glass protection present on this display.
Cameras
Let us chat cameras of the Realme 9i and it boasts a 50 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/2.76″, 0.64µm, PDAF main camera, accompanied by a 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro) camera and 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth) sensor. Yeah, no ultrawide shooter here. And the selfie camera is a 16 MP, f/2.0, (wide) shooter. You will get good-looking photos from the rare camera with a good dynamic range. By virtue of its 50-megapixel main camera, you can activate the 50-megapixel mode to take the same pixel photos. You will get higher-resolution photos this way. It has a super night mode which does great to give you better low light images with less noise. This phone actually takes sharp photos with good skin tones, put on portrait and normal modes.
Performance
The Realme 9i has a Qualcomm SM6225 Snapdragon 680 4G (6 nm) chipset. This one is great for day-to-day tasks and it is also pretty good with some games. The phone launches with Android 11, and Realme UI 2.0 out of the box. Upon upgrade, it will have Android 12, Realme UI 3.0. These latter Android version features are mostly under the hood. There’s a private dashboard where you can see all your permissions and user data settings.
You can also choose the accuracy of your location. And you get a green dot in the corner of the display when your mic is turned on. The Realme 9i has Realme UI 3.0. It’s a colorful yet snapping UI with a lot of customization options. You can change everything from accent colors to icons, to the shapes of the quick toggles. It also provides good multitasking features like the smart sidebar which allows shortcuts to your favorite apps. And the flexible windows feature opens up apps in a floating window.
Battery
Thanks to its Li-Po 5000 mAh, non-removable battery, the Realme 9i gets an excellent 134 hours of endurance of battery life. That’s certainly enough to overtake most competitors. The 9 Pro uses the 33W dart charger. While it’s not as fast as chargers from competing brands, it gets the phone a respectable 0 to 52% charge in 30 minutes and a full charge in an hour and 14 minutes.
